Instead of the poetry of me, myself and I,
we should pen an account
of the collective fate of a people,
from our past troubles to current challenges
and future hopes.
It can be the retelling of our nation’s epic story,
that spans from one generation to the next,
and even beyond.
So gather around and let us share together.
We will talk through the long, dark night.
The poems will serve as a flame
to enlighten our souls and give us needed warmth.
Let us speak of our ancestors and their past brave deeds.
We need to know and remember.
